Hey Davis residents! Did you know that our city is a recycling superstar? That’s right, Davis currently recycles and diverts over 70% of all materials discarded! This is something we should all be proud of, as it helps reduce waste and keep our city clean and sustainable.
To put this into perspective, San Francisco is often touted as having the highest percentage of recycling in the world, at 85%. While this is an impressive feat, we’re not too far behind! And when compared to Alaska, which has the lowest percentage of recycling in the United States at only 16%, it’s clear that we’re doing something right.
So, how does Davis manage to recycle and divert such a high percentage of its waste? Well, one way is by utilizing small businesses such as Nance Property Services. This local junk removal and clean up company not only removes unwanted items from homes and businesses, but they also donate and recycle 80% of all the material they remove. It’s great to see small businesses like this doing their part to help our community stay green and sustainable.
But it’s not just businesses that are making a difference. As residents, we can all do our part to reduce waste and recycle more. Here are a few tips:
-Separate your recyclables from your trash: This may seem obvious, but it’s important to make sure you’re properly separating your recyclables from your regular trash. If you’re not sure what can and can’t be recycled, check with your local waste management company.
- Reduce your use of single-use plastic: Single-use plastic items like water bottles, straws, and plastic bags can take hundreds of years to decompose in a landfill. Consider using reusable alternatives instead.
- Compost food scraps: Food waste is a major contributor to landfills, but it doesn’t have to be. Composting is an easy way to turn food scraps into nutrient-rich soil for your garden.
As a resident of Yolo County, I’m proud to be part of a community that values sustainability and takes action to reduce waste. Let’s all do our part to keep Davis a green and thriving city for generations to come!
